The 8th Kwara State Assembly has acquired 300 hectares of farmland, the Dodo Integrated Farm, at Agogo village in Ejidongari, Moro Local Government of the state, made possible through the one billion-loan that was accessed by the state government, N40 million of which was allocated to the house.
This development see the Speaker of the House, Dr. Ali Ahmad and the other 23 members embrace farming.
Alhaji Ishiaku Aliyu Adams, Chairman House Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources, commended the state government for the opportunity which has made them proud owners of the 300 hectares farmlands.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Bamidele Adegoke, stated that the farm was a testimony of the sincerity of the present administration in the diversification of the economy into agriculture and food security, as it will also stimulate the economy through wealth creation.
“The state government will continue to provide necessary support to ensure the farm succeeds,” he said.
In the same vein, Ahmad noted that the farm was symbolic and a means of showing the world that agricultural production is the way out for Nigerian economic recession.
He also charged the electorate to engage the 16 incoming local government chairmen to invest in mechanised agriculture.
“The state’s local government election is coming in the state. Ask anyone contesting for chairmanship position what he plans to do with Head of Department Agric, farm and about 100 supervisors for agric, and staff going to local government councils to sit down and lazy away. We have been blaming the Federal Government and state governments. The NLC should rise up
